COMMUNITIES > OVERVIEW
For communities, NextG installs systems that are aesthetically consistent with neighborhoods by attaching small antennas and small equipment shrouds on existing utility poles or street light poles.
Smartphones and smart devices have experienced such a fast adoption rate that wireless carriers are scrambling to add capacity. Smart-device users are watching TV clips, sending photos, surfing the Internet, reading email, downloading books, using social networks, and talking, often simultaneously. Network locations hit the hardest are in dense urban areas, on university campuses, and at sports venues such as stadiums and arenas. Of the 50,000-100,000 fans watching a football game, several thousand are typically watching the live game, surfing the Internet for scores, and Tweeting with their smartphones.
NextG, as a carrier's carrier, assists the wireless network operators' deployment of 4G services and infrastructure by upgrading existing SCS fiber networks to provide additional capacity and by deploying new fiber networks to carry future wireless traffic. The addition of 4G networks is not a surprise, as carriers have been planning it for years, using either LTE or WiMAX technologies, but the pace of device adoption has been (happily) much faster than anticipated – doubling each year.
SCS installations in the public way are designed to meet strict utility safety and construction standards, and installations follows local permit processes. The most common SCS public way installations can be on utility poles, street light poles, and traffic light poles (as in the photos).
NextG works closely with utilities and communities to be sure that safety and other construction requirements are met.
NextG offers the most extensive number of small-cell locations serving the largest US population centers, as well as systems in numerous other cities and small communities. NextG has installed over 7,000 distributed antenna system (DAS) SCS sites.
New York City has a local set of requirements established by the Department of Information, Telecommunications & Technology (DoITT) and a local system of franchises. NextG is a franchisee and has installed many SCS sites that meet DoITT rules. NextG has expanded beyond the five boroughs into New York State, outward on Long Island and across the Hudson River into New Jersey.
San Francisco is another city with local challenges, but NextG has installed substantial SCS systems for mobile operators and WiMAX operators within the city.
In the San Diego and Los Angeles metropolitan regions, NextG has extensive fiber and SCS installations providing services to most of both regions.
